It all started Christmas Eve morning when we were supposed to head up to Pender, NE but due to a weather advisory decided it would be best not to travel with the kiddos. The snow hadn't really started to come down yet but due to the ice we had to forgo our tradition of going and looking at lights with my family. I still ran to JCPenneys that night because bad weather could not keep me from going and getting a good deal on a coat for Winter and I! Since we thought we were going to Pender we did our usual Christmas Eve baking and Taco soup dinner the previous night with Andrew's family so we ended up doing pizza with my Mom Christmas Eve night. We left my Mom's house fairly early and headed home for bed.
The next morning we woke up to a ton of snow plus it was still coming down. We still planned to go to my Moms that morning at 9 like we do every year. We usually start by opening gifts then my Mom cooks us all breakfast. Well this year we had only been there a half an hour when my brother called saying he was stuck so all the guys went to help him. Well after about 2 hours he still could not get to my Moms due to the roads so he parked in a empty lot and my sister with four wheel drive ended up going and picking him up. We realized that we probably would be stuck at my Mom's so we called Andrew's family and decided that we would do Christmas the next day instead of at 11 like we usually do. Then we called all my aunts, uncles, and cousin to tell them not to come to my Moms for Christmas and that we would do it on Sunday. We sat around my moms playing pitch, the Wii, and watching Christmas movies with all my siblings. We all ended up staying the night at my Moms.
In the morning we headed back to Andrew’s mom house and the side roads were pretty bad but they had cleared all the main roads. We cleaned up once we got there and waited for everyone to arrive to celebrate Christmas with his family. After the kids gifts we did the adult gift exchange. For the past couple years my MIL has made themed gift bags and then we do a white elephant exchange to see who gets what. This year Andrew and I became the proud owners of a Husker quilt that my MIL made! Right after we opened our gift we heard crying coming from the basement and of course I knew it was my child. When I went downstairs Winter had a nice size bump on the side of her head. She had hit it on the wooden office chair while playing catch with the other kids. The next day she woke up with a black eye.
On Sunday we finished up Christmas with my Moms side of the family then went over to Andrew’s sister to do Christmas with his Dad. By Sunday night I was so sick of the snow(it didn’t help that our car got stuck that night also) that we decide to pack up and go home Monday instead of Tuesday. When we got home we checked out the gifts Santa had left while we were in Lincoln and had a very relaxing night. We had made it through another wonderful yet crazy Christmas back home!
At my family Christmas.
A really cute video of Weston I took while in Lincoln.
